Some examples of what self management could look like:
Eunice has been using the same service provider for many years and is ready to take more control over her service and funding. She engages Personal Assistants WA and elects to choose and coordinate her staff to start with and Personal Assistants WA will continue to pay payroll and the associated costs. Eunice negotiates an hourly rate that is lower than the price guide rate which means that she has more hours of service available. Over the course of her plan, she meets with Personal Assistants WA periodically to learn more about her responsibilities if she was to directly hire her staff.
John has been self managing his funds for the past two years but is now working 3 days a week and is struggling to keep on top of the administration of hiring staff. He engages Personal Assistants WA to do payroll and calculate leave, super and tax payments for him.
Sarah lives in a group home and her family looks after her finances. Sarah would like to move out of the group home and into a shared living arrangement but would require support in the mornings and the evening. Sarah’s family would like to self manage her funding so that she can choose the people that work with her. This will mean that she can negotiate with them a rate of pay less than the NDIS pricing guide. Sarah’s family do not know where to start so they ask Personal Assistants WA to assist them to learn to use the NDIS portal, to recruit staff and to pay them. Sarah is also able to flexibly pay for therapy by non-registered NDIS providers and to negotiate pricing with them.
Fatima has tried several agencies and not found the right fit of a support staff. She met Jill through her peer-to-peer network and she would like to hire her, but she struggles to understand what her responsibilities would be if she was to self manage her funding. She asks Personal Assistants WA to walk her through the process and to build her capacity to hire staff and understand her responsibilities.
